On-site Treatment of Food Processing Residues

Renewable Energy from Anaerobic Systems in the food industry

Increasing production site sustainability is a challenging goal for the Food industry.  Clearfleau delivers on-site renewable energy from cost-effective conversion of process residues into valuable biogas.  Generate revenue, while cutting your costs and carbon footprint:

•  Reducing your fossil fuel costs by up to 25%

•  Cutting your effluent costs by at least 50%

•  Free energy once plant is paid for: <5 years

Proven Technology For The Food Industry

On-site anaerobic digestion (AD) can treat your site’s wash-waters and processing residues. Fats and bio-solids can be included in our liquid based anaerobic system, avoiding off-site disposal of your bio-degradable residues.  Converting costs into revenue can payback in less than 5 years.

In addition to on-site energy, liquid digestion combined with water treatment on your site will allow cleansed water to be discharged or recycled.  This proven anaerobic system offers:

•  Renewable energy from your residues

•  Revenue from FIT and RHI incentives

•  Lower process residue disposal costs

•  Smaller energy (electricity & heat) bills

•  Tax savings for lower carbon emissions

•  Environmentally sustainable production

Benefits For Your Site

Are you under pressure to cut costs, reduce emissions and limit your environmental impact?  The food industry sector’s wastewater treatment charges and fuel costs will continue to increase. Clearfleau’s proven on-site digestion technology adds value to a range of process residues including:

•  Waste water from product processing

•  Wash down residues and effluents

•  Blancher liquors / process condensates

•  Unused ingredients and co-products

•  Other bio-residues or reject products

On-site Anaerobic Digestion (AD) Projects

Convert your organic food processing residues, including sugars, oils or fats, into biogas and renewable energy. Our references include Nestlé’s confectionery site at Fawdon, Newcastle and Olleco’s in Liverpool.  Food sector plants are being built on vegetable and poultry sites. To find out how to benefit from reduced disposal and energy costs on your site, contact us.

The plant at Nestle Fawdon has been operational since early 2014. The site is a showcase for sustainable manufacturing.  The AD plant combines liquid residues with solid materials formally taken off site. The plant at Olleco site processing cooking oil residues is supplying power to the grid.

On-site AD cuts costs, generates revenue. underpinning environmental targets, as highlighted by Andrew Griffiths, head of sustainability at Nestle:

“As part of its sustainability strategy, Nestlé chose to develop Fawdon as a low carbon pilot site, with the initial investment in AD as the primary technology to manage liquid effluent and solids more cost effectively, while also improving management of our water usage.”
