On-site Treatment of Beverage Production Residues

Renewable Energy from Your Co-products

On-site digestion will convert beverage production residues like distillery co-products into renewable energy. Clearfleau’s high-rate anaerobic systems will reduce costs, cut your carbon emissions and generate revenue:

•  Reducing your fossil fuel costs by up to 20%

•  Cutting your treatment costs by at least 60%

•  Free energy once plant is paid for: < 5 years

Proven Technology For Beverage Production Residues

On-site liquid anaerobic digestion (AD) is ideal for treating effluents and co-products from distilleries beverage production residues, as well as breweries and soft drinks manufacture.  Clearfleau’s anaerobic plants provide effective wastewater treatment, and can handle high strength co-products like pot ale.

Converting costs into revenue can payback in less than 5 years.  On-site digestion will allow cleansed water to be discharged or recycled on your site.  Our anaerobic solutions offer:

•  Renewable energy from your residues

•  Revenue from FIT and RHI incentives

•  Lower process residue disposal costs

•  Smaller energy (electricity & heat) bills

•  Tax savings for lower carbon emissions

•  Environmentally sustainable production

Benefits for Your Site

Are you under pressure to cut your costs, reduce emissions and limit your environmental impact?  If your disposal and fuel costs are increasing, Clearfleau’s proven on-site digestion technology will add value to your process residues including:

•  Effluents from your processing activity

•  Wash-down residues and condensates

•  Liquid residues from brewing or malting

•  Co-products and other liquid feedstocks

•  Other bio-residues or rejected product

Distillery projects combine bio-energy with clean water discharge to protected rivers (e.g. the Spey).  To assess the financial return from adding value to co-products and find out how to benefit from reduced disposal and energy costs, contact us.

On-site AD Projects

Clearfleau’s anaerobic systems can be integrated with existing treatment systems.  You can produce a significant proportion of your site’s energy needs (heat/power).  Distilleries and breweries, particularly on remoter sites, can reduce energy costs using process residues.

Clearfleau has built two bio-energy plants for Diageo, Scotland’s leading distiller. The plant at Dailuaine distillery has been operational for 3 years – the Glendullan facility for over a year.  Treating over 1000m3 of co-products per day, both plants exceed 95% COD removal, minimising further treatment for river discharge of clean water. Case studies

Keith Miller, Diageo’s Distillation & Maturation Director, said: “The bioenergy plant at Glendullan is the most recent example of harnessing the potential of natural raw materials we use in the distillation process to generate renewable energy.”

Lord Dunlop when visiting the Glendullan bio plant in September 2015 commented:

The commitment to powering distilleries like Glendullan with sustainable energy, recycled from co-products of the whisky-making process, is good for the planet, good for the whisky industry and good for the Scottish economy.
